Shoton or the ‘Curd Festival’ is one of the most celebrated festivals in Tibet that the Tibetans continue to celebrate evenin exile. It is a traditional celebration originally performed for monks returning from their retreat journey.
For the past 28 years the celebration has traveled to many parts of India and Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts or TIPA as we know plays an instrumental role in hosting Shoton. This year, TIPA is hosting Shoton from May 7th till the 19th in Dharamshala with 14 opera troupes participating from different parts of India, Nepal and the United States.
