HO CHI MINH CITY -- From its first gurgles in the mountains of Tibet, the Mekong River winds its way for more than 4,000 kilometers through China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. It then splits into nine channels in a region known as Cuu Long (Nine Dragons) to the Vietnamese, and "the rice bowl of Vietnam" to outsiders.
