From Business of need to Bond of Trust: Ludhiana’s three-generation sweater story with Tibetan retailers The Tibetan Traders’ Association of Ludhiana, Punjab, recently hosted a special program to celebrate His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday in August. On the sideline, we met with the owner of Shakti knitwears, an Indian sweater and garment wholesaler who has shared a thriving business relationship with Tibetan sweater sellers for three generations. What began as a "business of need" has gradually grown into a lasting bond of “trust and affection”, as one of the sons recalls. One wholesaler fondly recalled his early days selling undergarments to Tibetan traders.
