Institute set up by Dalai Lama to start academic courses in Tibetan art & culture

Dharamshala: The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), one of the oldest institutes established by the Dalai Lama in India in 1959, is set to launch its first-ever academic programmes to impart theoretical knowledge and practical training in traditional arts. It plans to collaborate with the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi to offer these courses.The academic structure will have three levels of study: a four-year pre-primary course, a three-year bachelor's programme, and a two-year master's programme. The curriculum will encompass traditional Tibetan music, dance, and opera, integrated with a formal educational framework.The initiative aims to deepen the theoretical understanding of Tibetan artists, enabling them to articulate their rich cultural heritage with greater clarity and confidence.
