Beijing described the event as a celebration of stability and development, but Tibetans in exile offered a starkly different view. Speaking to Tibet Radio, the Central Tibetan Administration’s spokesperson Tenzin Lekshey, researchers, and activists criticised the anniversary as “political theatre,” arguing that it serves only to showcase China’s authority in Tibet. They stressed that the Tibet Autonomous Region represents only part of historic Tibet, which traditionally encompasses three provinces. Lekshey said that despite China’s repeated claims of stability, “the only way to achieve real stability is to meet the genuine needs of the Tibetan people, not through propaganda or force.”
