New York Rally Marks 1987 Lhasa Uprising Anniversary | RTYC New York and New Jersey
On September 27, Tibetans in New York and New Jersey—led by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC)—organized a protest rally marking the anniversary of the 1987 Lhasa Uprising.
The rally began at the United Nations Headquarters and marched to the Chinese Consulate in New York. Participants honored the courage of monks, nuns, and laypeople who rose up in Lhasa against China’s repression in 1987, and remembered all Tibetans who continue to suffer under occupation.
Organizers framed the action as a symbolic tenshug (long-life prayer offering) to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, urging renewed commitment to Tibet’s freedom struggle.
