PRESS RELEASE
As the 2026 Sikyong and Tibetan Parliamentary elections of the Central Tibetan Administration draw near, the Central Election Commission has received numerous inquiries and observed considerable public discussion and speculation regarding the electoral process. In response, the Election Commission of the Central Tibetan Administration issues this press release to inform the public and clarify the following:
In accordance with Article 97 of the Charter of Tibetans-in-Exile and Sub-clause (3) of Clause (5), Article 2 of the Rules and Regulations of the Election Commission, it is stipulated that:
“As and when the Sikyong and the Tibetan Parliament elections are to be held, two Additional Election Commissioners shall be required; they will serve for the period from the announcement of the start of the election process until the declaration of the final voting results.”
Accordingly, the electoral process will officially begin on the day the two Additional Election Commissioners take their oath of office. Arrangements have therefore been made for their appointment on 1 October 2025, after which they will formally assume their duties.
Once in office, the Central Election Commission will determine and announce the detailed schedule for both the preliminary and main election dates.
