Taiwan has forged its first formal higher education partnership with the Tibetan community in India, agreeing to send native Mandarin teachers to Tibetan schools. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center and the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education recently signed a memorandum of understanding to elevate existing Chinese-language programs. Beyond expanding job prospects for Tibetan youth, officials view this collaboration as a strategic move. Mastering Mandarin equips Tibetan students to communicate directly with Chinese-speaking audiences, strengthening their ability to advocate for a free Tibet while reinforcing shared democratic values between Taiwan and the exiled community.
