TIBETAN CALLIGRAPHY EMERGES AS A VOICE OF SURVIVAL
On April 30, 2026, Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) India and WASURCIRCLE held a joint event at Tibetan Children's Village (TCV) schools to observe Tibetan Calligraphy Day. With high student participation, the event highlighted the traditional script as a foundational element of Tibetan heritage.
The celebration serves as a direct response to China's "Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress," passed on March 12, 2026. Set to take effect on July 1, 2026, the law is widely criticized by UN experts and activists as a tool for institutionalizing the erasure of Tibetan identity. By mandating Mandarin-centric education and social systems, the law threatens the survival of the native tongue. Through the art of the pen, students demonstrated that preserving their unique alphabet is an act of peaceful resistance and a commitment to the survival of their culture.
