U.S. Senators introduce bipartisan resolution honouring Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday and supporting Tibet

DHARAMSHALA, June 18: U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) and Todd Young (R-Indiana) on Tuesday introduced a bipartisan resolution to honour the upcoming 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and reaffirm support for the Tibetan people. 

“The people of Tibet have an inalienable right to self-determination, and our resolution reaffirms the United States’ commitment to Tibetans by supporting their basic human rights, religious freedom, culture, and language,” said Senator Merkley. “As the Chinese government continues to ignore Tibet’s rights under international law, we’re sending a clear message: these fundamental freedoms must be protected.”
