Fresh tensions have once again emerged between India and Nepal after Kathmandu strongly objected to India and China’s decision to conduct the 2026 Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through the Lipulekh Pass. The issue reportedly also became a diplomatic flashpoint during Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s Nepal visit, where Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah allegedly refused to meet him amid growing anger over the disputed Himalayan region.
The controversy has reignited debates around the long-running Lipulekh and Kalapani border dispute involving India, Nepal, and China. Nepal claims the strategically important area falls within its territory, while India maintains administrative and military control over the region.
